Aptera launch edition unveiled

Aptera has shown all the details of the special edition launch of its first solar electric car and it is spectacular.

Aptera continues to move forward at a good pace for the launch and marketing of its first electric car, a very peculiar electric car, as it has been designed to be as efficient as possible, the brand calls it ultra efficient.

In addition, thanks to the solar panels on its bodywork, it can obtain free energy from the sun, an option that is increasingly present in electric car proposals, as we have seen in the Sono Sion or the Lightyear 0.

Aptera co-founder and co-CEO Steve Fambro had this to say at the Launch Edition presentation: “We’ve solved the equation of a more efficient way to travel by harnessing the power of the sun, and we’re excited to introduce our Launch Edition vehicle to the world. Our tireless efforts have resulted in the Aptera vehicle, which can take you wherever you want to go using the creative energy directly from our sun and efficiently converted into free movement”.

This is the Aptera Launch Edition

The Aptera Launch Edition is very similar to prototypes seen before, the design and aesthetics of the vehicle is what is most striking, a three-wheeled vehicle with a futuristic aesthetic that only needs a quarter of the energy needed by most electric cars in reality to cover the same distance, this translates into a very efficient vehicle thanks to a very careful aerodynamics.

It is also equipped with 700 volts of Aptera’s patented solar technology, allowing it to travel up to 65 km (40 miles) a day using only the energy captured by the sun. Isn’t that fantastic? This could mean that in some cases, the Aptera car may not need to be connected to a charger for everyday use.

The total range of the Aptera Launch Edition is 643 kilometres (400 miles) thanks in part to an aerodynamic coefficient of just 0.13. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) is 4 seconds and the top speed is limited to 162 km/h (162 mph).

It is important to note that it is a 2-seater only, conditioned mainly by its innovative aerodynamic design.

When does the Aptera go on sale?

The Aptera looks good, doesn’t it? Perhaps you are interested in this solar electric car and are wondering when the first units will be sold and delivered.

Aptera has clarified its next steps, indicating that it is completing the fourth and final phase of product development, which will be followed by crash testing and validation. Once this phase is completed, Aptera will be able to manufacture around 10,000 vehicles per year, although they hope to expand their production level to 20,000 units per year.

Aptera was originally scheduled to start production in late 2023, but may be delayed a little longer, as Chris Anthony, co-founder and co-CEO of Aptera, said: “While our delivery schedule is dependent on funding, our goal is to start production in late 2023. Once we meet our fundraising targets, we will be able to provide a more precise delivery schedule.”

Aptera Motors has indicated that there are currently already more than 40,000 confirmed reservations, a figure that makes the first year and second year production fully sold out if and when those reservations eventually materialise into firm orders.
