The Tesla Model Y was the best-selling electric car in Spain in February.
Today it’s time to talk about and analyse the electric car sales data that took place in Spain during the month of February 2023, a month shorter than usual but still showing really interesting data.
Thanks to the information provided by our Twitter friend, @ValdesL2, we bring you this information in detail.
The first data that catches our attention, and which is already a trend month after month, is that electric cars are the type of vehicle that grows the most compared to the same month of 2022. No more and no less than 42%. On the other side of the coin, we have diesel cars, whose market share continues to plummet and this month represents 14% fewer sales than in February 2022.
In terms of market share, electric cars in February 2023 accounted for 4.8% of total sales. This is 0.8 points higher than in 2022. At the moment, petrol cars continue to maintain the highest percentage of sales with 42%, the same percentage as in 2022, so we could say that their market share has stabilised and perhaps in the coming months we will see it start to fall in favour of electrified options (plug-in hybrids and pure electrics).

At the very least it is surprising that Tesla Model 3 sales are so low in these first two months, especially considering the figures obtained by the Tesla Model Y. On this occasion there may be a cause, and is that the Model Y comes from the Giga Berlin, while the Model 3 comes from China or the United States, therefore the shipment and delivery of this model is concentrated on certain dates, which could happen in this month of March 2023.
