Lightyear is already talking about the Lightyear 2 after opening the waiting list for its future customers.
Lightyear has surprised us with a statement announcing the opening of the waiting list for its next solar electric car, the Lightyear 2.
To date, with the exception of the name, little or nothing was known about this new vehicle of the brand, as they are currently focused on the production of the Lightyear 0.
Together with the press release, Lightyear has given the first details of the Lightyear 2, information that is somewhat scarce but which can be considered exciting.
The brand claims that the Lightyear 2 will offer a range of more than 500 miles (800 km) and a price that will be less than 40,000 dollars.
If the Dutch company really manages to launch this vehicle on the market at this price, it will undoubtedly be a great success. Let’s remember that its first solar electric car, the Lightyear 0, has a much higher price, around $250,000.
Lightyear’s CEO, Lex Hoefsloot, was asked about the price difference between the two vehicles and said the following:
“I think people will be surprised actually, by what is possible in high volume, because, of course, the question we get the most, for good reason is “how the hell do you guys, you get it from 250K (euros) to 30K?” What people underestimate about Lightyear 0 is that we focus a lot on picking technologies that are fundamentally scalable. That’s also puzzling to people why we can do it, but we’re really confident we can get to that price point.”
We probably won’t have much more news on the Lightyear 2 until the summer of 2023, at which time the brand has announced that it will reveal the final design of the vehicle.
In the meantime, you can sign up to the Lightyear 2 waiting list via the Lightyear 2 website.
