Foxconn-led MIH Consortium unveils ‘Project X’.
The Foxconn-led MIH Consortium, also known as ‘Mobility in Harmony’, has announced ‘Project X‘. The project will create a modular A-segment electric vehicle platform. MIH Consortium CEO Jack Cheng said:
“MIH is writing the next chapter of the future of mobility. Project X is a demonstration of a new EV platform for the ecosystem. We are not just making cars, we are enabling more lifestyles.
By thinking beyond today’s vehicles and embracing the latest technologies, such as artificial intelligence, autonomous driving and Web3, this vehicle platform can create shared mobility, digital healthcare in a post-pandemic society, entertainment and other future applications unimaginable today.
The goal of Project X is to develop the world’s most iconic open electric vehicle platform for innovators, by innovators.”
The MIH Consortium has more than 2,500 members and, today, held its annual ‘MIH Demo Day 2022’ event. The MIH Consortium was created with a focus on modular design and standardised interfaces, enabling the creation of new vehicles in less time and at lower cost, meeting the needs of different audiences and enabling new business models.
MIH is inviting its members to participate and co-create this platform in the initial vehicle development phase, implementing the technologies that MIH working groups develop, such as: powertrain, battery systems, fixed charging technology and battery swapping, electrical and electronic zonal architecture (EEA) and decentralised identifier (DID) for enhanced privacy.
MIH is expected to unveil a three-passenger A-segment demonstrator car based on the new platform by the end of 2023. MIH plans to launch more six- and nine-seat vehicle platforms in the coming years, covering more segments.
On its own, Foxconn is also betting heavily on electric vehicles, announcing last October a pickup and a crossover, called Foxtron Model B and Foxtron Model V. It also has a multitude of partnerships to manufacture electric vehicles, such as the most recent one announced with INDI One to produce the INDIEV.
