The SUV version of the GMC Hummer EV electric pickup is already on the way
We have to go back to April 2021 to remember when the SUV version of the impressive GMC Hummer EV was introduced, which they called the GMC Hummer EV SUV, marketing both versions; both the SUV version and the pickup, which was launched earlier (October 2020).
Now, the company has announced that the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV will go into production. This is incredible news for all customers who pre-ordered, and who are part of the huge rush of reservations that accumulated just one month after the SUV version was unveiled, reaching 65,000 reservations in March (for both versions).
Production entry, and corresponding deliveries, have been delayed by the launch of another all-electric pickup, the GMC Sierra Denali EV pickup. Already in September, Hummer EV reservations (both versions) exceeded 90,000. Now, it seems that 95% of the reservationists are placing their orders.
The GMC Hummer EV SUV is based on GM’s Ultium platform, incorporating three engines that add up to a total power output of 830 hp and deliver a torque of just over 15,590 Nm. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h is estimated at 3.5 seconds (with ‘Watts to Freedom’). In addition, the innovative ‘CrabWalk’ feature is also available, as on its pickup sibling.
Both the SUV and pickup versions are manufactured at GM’s Factory Zero plant in Michigan, USA, where the Sierra Denali EV will also go into production. The first GMC Hummer EV SUV units are expected to begin delivery by the end of the first quarter.
The first GMC HUMMER SUV EV Edition 1 2024 was recently auctioned off, with proceeds of $500,000 going to Tread Lightly, a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting outdoor recreation through educational programmes.
