Despite a hesitant start, Rivian has reached the target for this year in terms of units manufactured.
For the year 2022, which ended just a few days ago, the American company Rivian had a target to reach that seemed difficult to achieve.
The goal was to manufacture a total of 25,000 units of its R1T pickup and its 100% electric R1S SUV at its plant in Illinois (USA) by 2022, a goal that seems to have been achieved on the last day of the year.
In fact, the initial target for 2022 was to manufacture a total of 50,000 units, but the company rectified just 3 months after the start of 2022 (March), to set an achievable target of 25,000 units, citing problems with raw materials and stock, a problem that continues to affect many industries and sectors today.
Rivian is an automotive brand with a difference, and it is betting that its electric cars will be adventure cars, cars that can take you to places where other vehicles can’t, and both its R1T pickup and R1S SUV option have demonstrated this since deliveries began in late 2021.
It was a tough start for Rivian, and although production of the Rivian R1T pickup began in September 2021, it could only get a total of 1,015 units out of the factory that year.
2022 did not continue in the best way, and even the corrected target of 25,000 units in 2022 seemed unattainable when the last quarter of 2022 (Q4 2022) began, as during the first three quarters Rivian had only manufactured a total of 14,317 units, so to reach the target in Q4 2022 it would have to manufacture more than 10,000 units, something that as we said seemed improbable given the evolution of production in previous months.
However, and thanks to a Rivian R1S owner who went to pick up his new car at the Rivian factory in Normal (Illinois), he took a photo where you can see inside the factory a kind of party with balloons that seem to show a 25K (25,000), implying that the company had finally managed to get its 25,000th unit out of production on the last day of 2022 and they had to celebrate.

Rivian’s expansion is still very much focused on serving the US and Canadian markets, the latter of which has already been addressed in the last three months of 2022 with the first deliveries being made in the manufacturer’s neighbouring country.
For Europe, however, there is still a long way to go, and although Rivian has plans for Europe, it is completely unknown in what form and when.
