The shortlist for the acclaimed ‘Car of the Year 2023’ title has been announced.

Shortlist revealed for Car of the Year 2023 title

One of the most important events of the year for car manufacturers is approaching, the naming of the acclaimed ‘Car of the Year 2023’ title. The shortlist has grown to seven finalists, including three all-electric car models, which is becoming increasingly common and which we saw last year with the title ‘Car of the Year 2022’.

Currently, the coveted ‘Car of the Year 2022’ award is held by the all-electric KIA EV6, which had five all-electric contenders among the seven finalists. However, this is not the first time that the title has been won by an electric car, as the ‘Car of the Year 2021’ went to the also 100% electric Volkswagen ID.4.

This year, there are fewer electrics on the shortlist, but that does not rule out the possibility of an all-electric car winning the Car of the Year title once again. The finalists in the running for the title are: Nissan Ariya, Subaru Solterra/Toyota bZ4X, Volkswagen ID. Buzz, Jeep Avenger, Kia Niro, Peugeot 408 and Renault Austral. Although some of them are not born to be electric, they do have all-electric versions, such as the Jeep Avenger or the Kia Niro.

As we said, these are the seven finalists from the list of 45 models that aspired to win the title, which was later reduced to 27. This first long list included electric models such as the BMW iX1, BYD Tang, Hongqi E-HS9, Mercedes-Benz EQE, MG 4, NIO ES8, Smart #1, Vinfast VF8 and VF9, Xpeng P5, BAIC EU5, BMW i7, Lexus RZ, Lucid Air, MG 5, NIO ET7 or Ora Cat, in addition to the finalists listed above.

Voting will take place in early January and the winner of ‘Car of the Year 2023’ will be announced on 13 January at the Brussels Motor Show.
