Volkswagen announces nearly 24% increase in electric vehicle sales by 2022

Volkswagen reports positive results for electric vehicle deliveries for the period to 2022.

Volkswagen seems to be reaping the rewards of its investment in electrification, a niche in which it was one of the pioneers and where it now has a wide range of models that is gradually increasing in number. The German company has announced that deliveries of all-electric vehicles worldwide increased in the full 2022 period by 23.6%.

However, the Volkswagen brand’s total deliveries of all powertrains were lower due in large part to the current supply crisis, which is reflected in the numbers in many sectors, such as the automotive industry. Board member for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, Imelda Labbé, said:

“We achieved a solid sales result in 2022 despite persistent supply bottlenecks. The pronounced growth of BEV models confirms that, with our attractive product portfolio, we are on the right track to become the most desirable brand for sustainable mobility.”

In total, the Volkswagen brand delivered 4.56 million vehicles globally in the full year 2022, which is 6.8% less than in 2021. Focusing on the Volkswagen brand’s sales of all-electric models, 330,000 units were sold, an increase of almost 24% year-on-year, compared to the previous period. The brand’s ID electric range was in high demand in China, where deliveries doubled.

Continuing its ‘ACCELERATE’ strategy, the brand plans to launch 10 new models by 2026, expanding its 100% electric range to include everything from an entry-level all-electric car priced under 25,000 euros to the recently unveiled new flagship Volkswagen ID.7.

With the brand’s current pure electric range, the electric car that stands out in sales is the Volkswagen ID.4, with around 170,000 units delivered in 2022. With deliveries of around 8,900 units, the ID.4 was the best-selling electric car in Sweden for the third year in a row.

The company saysthat since the first Volkswagen ID.3 was delivered to its owner in September 2020, Volkswagen has delivered more than 580,000 models of the ID family worldwide.
