In the last few days Volkswagen has been reminding us on social media that it was going to announce something important, that day has arrived and the German brand has surprised us by announcing the Volkswagen ID. 2all, a new member of the electric ID family.
There are many things to tell you about the Volkswagen ID. 2all, and although it won’t be launched until 2025, Volkswagen has detailed some interesting aspects of the concept version shown.
First of all, the ID. 2all concept is a preview of Volkswagen’s new design language. If we look at the various photos provided in this article, it seems that the brand has opted to return to a more conservative and less futuristic design and aesthetic. If we are told that it is the next generation of the Volkswagen Golf or Polo, we could easily believe it.
With the first electric cars in the ID range, the brand wanted to break all design moulds, but from what we have seen in this ID. 2all and its new design language prefer to return to more “normal” models that have been so successful for Volkswagen.
The same goes for the interior, where Volkswagen has opted to abandon the touch and digital buttons and go back to using buttons combined with two digital displays, one behind the steering wheel and a larger one in the centre of the dashboard.
The launch of the ID.2 all will mark the start of the use of the Volkswagen Group’s MEB Entry platform, a version adapted for small electric cars in which the group’s Spanish factories have a lot to say, as these types of vehicles are planned to be manufactured in Spain as part of the Volkswagen Group’s strategy, so it is to be expected that the ID.2 all will be manufactured in Spain.
Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen said at the presentation: “We are transforming the company quickly and fundamentally, with the clear aim of making Volkswagen a true brand of love. The ID. 2all shows where we want to take the brand. We want to be close to the customer and offer the best technology in combination with fantastic design. We are implementing the transformation at an accelerated pace to bring electric mobility to the masses.”

Much of the presentation of the Volkswagen ID.2 all focused on providing details of the vehicle’s performance, and despite being a concept version, the final production version to be unveiled in 2025 is expected to receive very few changes.
The ID.2 all will have an electric motor on the front axle with a power output of 166 kW (226 hp), which will enable it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than 7 seconds. Top speed is limited to 160 km/h (100 mph).
The dimensions of the Volkswagen ID.2 all are: 4,050 mm long, 1,812 mm wide, 1,530 mm high and 2,600 mm wheelbase.
The boot capacity of the ID.2 all is 490 litres and can be increased to 1,330 litres if the rear seats are folded down.
Another aspect detailed by the brand about the ID.2 all is the range, which they have confirmed will be around 450 kilometres and that it will only take 20 minutes to charge its battery from 10 to 80 percent.
Volkswagen also indicated that the price target for the ID.2 all is below 25,000 euros. This is certainly a statement of intent.
A phrase that the brand indicated at the presentation and which describes the ID.2 all very well is that it is as spacious as a Golf but as economical as a Polo, i.e. the ID.2 all will be the natural replacement for the Golf and probably also for the Polo.
Volkswagen used the occasion to announce its electrification strategy for the coming years, where the brand says it will launch 10 new electric cars by 2026.
