The information from Google HD maps together with the Volvo EX90’s assisted driving technology will make it a safer and more reliable system.
The Volvo EX90 will mark a before and after for the Swedish brand, and they have already been showing all the innovations and new features that this spectacular electric SUV will have.
Now the Swedish brand, known for being one of the automotive brands that works the most on safety, has announced an important safety milestone by using the new Google HD maps together with the assisted driving technology that the Volvo EX90 will have.
This means that the integration of Google HD Maps with the Volvo EX90’s LiDAR, cameras and radar will work together to provide more accurate information about the environment around the vehicle.
Google HD Maps has been designed specifically for the automotive sector and offers highly detailed and accurate road information that will be integrated for the first time in the Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3 as announced by Volvo.
By integrating Google HD Map, Volvo will be able to bring together data from the industry-leading sensor suite in the Volvo EX90 with precise lane-level and location data from Google to facilitate assisted driving functions such as Lane Change Assist and Volvo Cars’ Pilot Assist technology. The new Volvo EX90 will also support future autonomous driving functionality.
This road information, combined with data from the Volvo EX90’s LiDAR and other sensors, will be processed through the car’s central computer system using NVIDIA DRIVE AI Platforms Xavier and Orin technology.
Javier Varela, COO and CEO of Volvo commented:
“The addition of Google HD Maps in our future car line-up marks an expansion of our strategic partnership with Google, reflecting our commitment to working with technology leaders. The implementation of Google HD Maps in our upcoming cars will help us offer our drivers a more enjoyable driving experience and, in the future, contribute to the introduction of safe autonomous driving.”
Moreover, JorgenBehrens, VP. and GM of Geo Automotive, Google added:
“Building on our long history of mapping the world, Google’s new HD map is designed specifically for automakers and provides comprehensive location and lane-level data that is crucial to powering the next generation of assisted and autonomous driving systems. We are excited to continue partnering with leading automakers like Volvo Cars to improve the safety and convenience of drivers everywhere.”
