VW presents the Volkswagen ID.7, an electric sedan with 700 km range

The VW ID.7 has been unveiled at CES 2023 and here’s what we can tell you about Volkswagen’s electric sedan.

A few days ago we told you that Volkswagen was going to present a new electric car at CES 2023, the day arrived and we finally know more details, very interesting indeed, of its 100% electric sedan known to date as VW ID.AERO.

Finally and as all bets indicated, the ID.AERO (prototype) is now called VW ID.7, following the nomenclature that the brand has adopted for its electric ID range.

The ID.7 is part of Volkswagen’s strategy to launch up to 10 new electric models by 2026, with the production version of the VW ID.7 due in the second quarter of 2023, just a few months away.

Although the VW ID.7 is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, a platform it is using in all its vehicles in the ID range, this ID.7 stands out for its efficiency, as the brand claims it will have a range of 700 kilometres under the WLTP cycle.

This makes the ID.7 the Volkswagen electric car with the longest range and although the size of the battery has not been revealed, everything suggests that it will share engine and components with the rest of the vehicles in the .ID range, the big difference will be in the aerodynamics of the car, which will substantially reduce average fuel consumption.

In addition, the VW ID.7 will have important new features in the interior, some new features that according to the brand come to meet the needs of its customers and will have these new features:

  • New display concept
  • Augmented reality head-up display
  • 38-centimetre (15-inch) screen
  • New air-conditioning controls integrated into the first level of the infotainment system
  • Illuminated touch-sensitive sliders

Thomas Schäfer, CEO of VOlkswagen Passenger Cars had this to say after the presentation of the ID.7:

“With the new ID.7 , we are extending our range of electric models into the upper segments. The sedan will offer first-class technology and quality. The ID.7 is one of ten new electric models we plan to launch by 2026. Our goal? To deliver the right products for our customers in every segment.”

All those attending CES 2023 in Las Vegas will be able to see the VW ID.7 in this curious camouflage in person between 5 and 8 January 2023.
