Zeekr 003 electric crossover undergoes testing in Europe ahead of official launch

The Zeekr 003 is set to rival the Volkswagen ID.3 and MG 4.

The Geely-owned Zeekr brand is finalising the launch of a new electric vehicle in the European market. The Zeekr 003 is expected to arrive in Europe very soon and will be one of Geely’s first models in Europe. The all-electric crossover is set to rival the Volkswagen ID.3 and MG4.

With its official unveiling scheduled for the 2023 Shanghai Motor Show, the Zeekr 003 is currently undergoing testing on European soil. Production of the electric crossover is expected to begin later this year. The launch of this new vehicle is part of the brand’s strategy to double its annual sales to 140,000 units this year.

The Zeekr 003, as it is expected to be called (although it is currently codenamed ‘BX1E’), is based on Geely Group’s SEA platform, which has also been used in its other two electric models: Zeekr 001 and Zeekr 009. The Zeekr 003 has been designed at Geely’s Gothenburg site in Sweden, giving the vehicle the modern look that we are used to from the brand, even with a nice camouflage.

Although not confirmed, its dimensions are rumoured to be around 4.30 metres long, 1.83 metres wide and 1.64 metres high, which places it with the brother of the Smart #1, which has also been developed by Geely, in association with Mercedes-Benz. Rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions are expected to be available , with maximum power outputs of up to 315 kW (422 hp).
